Over the past years, Mayuri has also worked with various fashion designers, like Abu Jaani, Sandeep Khosla, Tarun Tahiliani, Sabyasachi, Anju Modi, Hemant Trivedi, Manish Arora and Wendell Rodericks, and choreographed dance pieces inspired by their fashion lines. Amongst these, the highlights of her fashion collaborations are ‘India Fantastique’ book launch by the fashion designer duo Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla, and Anju Modi’s 2013 Delhi Fashion Week Line ‘Draupadi.’

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are known for synthesizing the traditional Indian craft with the world of high fashion. Their book reflected the same, celebrating their 25th anniversary and displaying their classically elegant designs. They commissioned Mayuri for creating dance sequences for the occasion of their book launch. Mayuri created a whole evening of musical medleys, inspired by the theme of the book. She took inspiration from Ravi Varma’s paintings, classical dances of Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam to accentuate the movements, and from Kathakali and Yakshagana for form.

Mayuri’s collaboration with Anju Modi saw culmination of mythology, dance and fashion. Interpreting “Draupadi” from Anju Modi’s line at the Delhi Couture Week, 2013, Mayuri created three choreographic works based on three excerpts from Mahabharata – Draupadi’s Swayamvar, Game of Dice, and Cheerharan. Draupadi’s emotions and her life journey were the inspiration for Mayuri, where emphasis was paid to the act in the dance.

Both these collaborations saw the dancers dressed in the fashion line clothing, adding to the charm and oomph of the occasion.
